  • Does anybody get benefit from avoiding sulfur rich foods.? i tried to eliminate all sulfur from my diet and had negative effects. but Yasko and a doctor i see say that you have to reduce the sulfur and ammonia burden in order to get the methylation cycle moving?

OC-3404 thanks for your post. I too do not eat processed foods. I agree you need glutathione,I was recently introduced to "S-Acetyl Glutathione" by Xymogen. It is an acetylated form of glutathione. I like your post and will consider eliminating all night shades. Right now I don't eat tomatoes (normally) but do eat potatoes and egg plant (both night shades). I used to eat mostly sulfur foods, kale, onion, garlic, eggs, I was trying to eat healthy, then I discovered methylation pathway defects. I'm still learning! Thanks

I try to limit sulfur because I get neuropathy etc. if I don't. However, I eat meat 3 times a day because I don't have a lot of fruit and veggie options. I definitely get swollen and achy joints - not sure if I can blame that on sulfur. My doc says those are def from ammonia. I seem to go to extremes with this.

I'm CBS C699T ++, and do have to limit sulfur, but heterozygous should not be a huge problem. I personally think that Amy Yasko's advice is extreme and possibly dangerous if done long-term. Sulfur is needed for liver, adrenal function, and building connective tissue. That being said, I can't handle more than a half egg, and I can only eat one high thiol (sulfur that is not bound in amino acid form) vegetable per day (like kale). I eat all the meat I want. Thiols seem to be my issue, but I recently eliminated nightshades, and that has allowed me to start eating more thiols everyday. Basically nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, etc.) and to a lesser degree thiol rich food flair my fibromyalgia muscle tightness. Something else that people tend to miss is eliminating sulfites. Sulfites (or sulfur dioxide) are hidden in a lot of processed foods because they only have to be declared at certain amounts, and they're naturally occurring in things like wine.. CBS gives you too many sulfites to eliminate (sulfites, along with ammonia, are a waste product of methylated sulfur), so you really should not be adding any on top of that. So ... More

I followed Dr Amy Yasko's advice! Interestingly, concerning the low sulfur diet, I still eat meat, I excluded milk, eggs, cheese, limit beef and pork, and exclude vegetables as listed on sulfur free diet. I also eliminated gluteus and sugar from my diet. I take b12 injections and supplements to support methylation pathways. I eat small portions for meals and don't eat between meals and began loosing weight. I have tried many diets with no or limited success. This works for me. It is not carb free, I eat fruits. There are days I don't do so well, just get back on diet and feel good. iAlso, look up neurobiologix with Dr Ken Stewart online. I use the neuro immune stabilizer and the methyl folate plus

Interesting that you had these improvements. I could benefit from all mentioned improved conditions. That would be awsome to have relief from arthritis, decrease B/P and no swelling in extremities. Can I schedule an appointment with your Dr. Online and approximately what is fee for visit. Already been to Internal Medicine physician and she didn't have knowledge of how to treat me. I know realize from obtaining information through communities such as this, I must seek help from a professional who specializes with these defects. Also, I read last night that I need a different Vitamin B2 than what I've been taking for neuropathy--I take Metanx.

Interesting that limiting meat helps. Does that include fish. Just saw wonderful recipe for Cauliflower soup and I'm assuming that would also be limited along with other Calcite reuse vegetables. I have so much to learn as I'm just beginning this journey. Essentially, you are a vegetarian? Hopeful for improved health. Karen

I definitely benefit from low sulfur diet! I have less inflammation, arthritis improved, edema resolved! After 10 years on BP medication with diuretic' I'm off the medication! BP with medication was 130's/80's. Always had lower ext. edema! Off sulfur foods for months with continued improvements, also supplementing according to Amy Yasko's recommendations, B/P without medications for 3 months, daily checks normal now is 116/62! Absolutely no edema!

Definitely. I was already eating a very low-histamine diet (since 2013) but when I found out about compound CBS, I cut back my animal protein too and did notice an improvement. I'm eating around 7-10 grams a day (not much) but my symptoms get worse if I eat more.

I have limited knowledge about these defects. I'm in process of exploring find a practitioner to help me and I'm trying to educate myself, however, it's overwhelming. What I do know is that I've been very sick for a long time and I have high hopes I can find treatment and hopefully return to a near normal life.

I crave sulfur rich foods but am allergic to sulfa antibiotics. My doctor said they have nothing to do with each other. We need sulfur to live and she said unless you have a true allergy, I should follow what my body is craving. We are going to try the path of glutathione as my snaps indicate a deficiency.
