  • I recently brought my child to a geneticist to discuss a congenital condition. I told her that I'd done 23 & Me and Livewello and offered to share the results. She literally waved me off, saying, "They test for everything and tell you nothing." She and her assistant snickered when I even brought it up. Has anyone else had similar responses from "professionals?" I was so disappointed. I really wanted her to review our results with us and discuss what they meant. :(

Did you ask how else she expected to proceed?

I am so sorry that you had that experience with an MD but unfortunately that has been my experience during 5 years of trying to figure out why I am chronically ill. I was finally diagnosed with lyme disease but that did not make it easier with the western docs. They don't recognize anything that they are not taught in medical school. I have totally lost faith in western medicine when it comes to chronic illness. They just don't know how to treat anything that does not have a label.

There are many MD's who are going into alternative practice, at the risk of having their license taken away .If you can find such an alternative MD who will work with 23 and ME, that might be the better option. Did those docs offer any tests that they could do for your daughter? If so, another option would be to follow through with those tests and put the 23 and ME aside in the process.

I had done some other limited genetic testing through alternative docs several years ago and was not getting better with the treatments. After going through Lyme treatment and still having symptoms, I ... More

That's ridiculous! And yes, very disappointing. I'm sorry that happened to you. It's very likely because they have NOT a clue how to read the report. Ignorance. They just want to treat symptoms because that's all they know and all they have time for. This will be the case for the majority of medical doctors (who so often think they are God). They're not trained that way. And it's very specialized as well, so finding the right person is important. Check out www.OvercomeSicknessAndDisease.com Dr. Rodney Russell is excellent! I think he's also listed on this site. You can do a phone consult to get the information and treatment recommendations you need. Don't give up!
